Hello MSMGA Members,

We may ask what made the Boer goat so important?
In Africa there are herds of around 7,000 Boers all being raised mainly for their hides: Boer goat leather is said by some to be the best leather available. Why do they value there herds so much?
They contract with the most elite car manufacturers in the world, all because the seats in these cars are covered with Boer Goat leather.
In Africa they have to hire 4-5 rifle men to protect the herds from the lions. These big herds in Africa are made up of weathers raised for the leather, the best leather comes from Boers that are 2 or 3- 5 years old. It is said that a pair of shoes made from Boer Goat leather will last ten years.
In addition to that, the Boer goat is also in high demand today, because of the great need for healthy meat in America. Being the leanest meat next to fish. Besides other
cultures eat mainly goat meat. America imports over 50,000,000.00 in goat meat each year to fill this need, and prices paid at the meat market for imported meat, once processed are very high. Many would prefer to buy from the farm for a lot less. If the market price is 3.50 a LB then what could we expect to get on the farm?
We do not have any major goat meat processors in Utah so far. There are a few small outfits that we can sell to. Well, the big hurdle is letting people know that you have goats for sale or making sure that they get on a truck headed for bigger markets or the auctions. Please share your thoughts as well.

Thank you, John Raynor
